Who covers the cost of mediation?
As a rule, the cost of mediation is split equally among the participating parties unless an alternative agreement is made. In many cases, legal protection insurance (Rechtsschutzversicherung) will cover part or all of the expenses. If a mediation is court-ordered, the court may specify how costs are distributed. How long does a mediation process take?

The overall duration depends on the complexity of the conflict and the parties' willingness to cooperate. I offer individual sessions lasting 75 minutes each.
For simpler matters involving a single issue, a single session is often enough. More complex disputes naturally require more time. When a process extends across multiple sessions, it can span anywhere from a few days to several weeks or months, depending on how the conflict evolves and the scheduling availability of everyone involved.
Throughout the process, I am always mindful of moving at the natural pace of the conflict.
What are the prerequisites for mediation?

Mediation is open to everyone on a voluntary basis without needing judicial instruction. To ensure a fruitful process, participants should familiarize themselves with how mediation works and agree to its foundational rules. Read more under Mediation: Principles, Phases & Possibilities
What is the difference between mediation and legal advice?

In Short: Mediation is a collaborative process to find shared solutions, whereas legal advice offers one-sided support for specific legal claims.
The primary difference lies in the goal and approach: Mediation is an out-of-court dispute resolution method where I, as a neutral mediator, facilitate an environment for parties to reach a mutually agreed-upon solution. Legal advice, on the other hand, involves legal counsel and representation by an attorney, providing concrete legal assessments, strategy, and courtroom representation.
Important Role Distinction: In my role as a mediator, I do not provide legal advice for your case. To preserve strict neutrality and impartiality, I also do not mediate for existing or former legal clients—even regarding unrelated matters. I am, however, happy to refer you to trusted legal colleagues.
The Exception for Uncontested Divorces: In cases of mutual, uncontested divorce (einvernehmliche Scheidung), following a successful mediation, I can be separately retained as an attorney to legally represent both parties jointly for the court filing.
Online Mediation — How Does It Work?

For online mediation, I use Zoom, which fully complies with data protection requirements under Articles 44 et seq. of the GDPR. Conducting sessions virtually means the process is location-independent and can be flexibly adapted to your schedule and needs.
Thanks to versatile digital tools, online mediation is just as effective as in-person meetings. In fact, the physical distance can often help de-escalate tension and foster a calmer, more productive atmosphere.
