Attorney at Law Claire Irene Künzel
About me
Personal Background
I was born and raised in northern Bavaria in a German-Ghanaian family, alongside my older brother. As a result, intercultural dynamics and family conflict resolution have been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember.
I bring a deeply curious and analytical mindset to my work. These qualities serve me well as a mediator, as a successful process relies on creating a clear structure while holding space for what truly matters to be put into words.
“I firmly believe that when thoughts become words, words can spark action.”
Outside of my mediation practice, I work as a DJ as well as a dance and fitness instructor. Engaging with the cultural sector allows me to interact with people from diverse backgrounds across different aspects of life. It gives me the opportunity to experience empathy and communication beyond words, enriching my holistic approach to conflict resolution.
I am an active member of Friends of the Earth Germany (BUND e.V.), the Initiative for Black People in Germany (ISD-Bund e.V.), and Sea-Watch e.V. In my free time, I enjoy traveling—particularly throughout the Caribbean and West Africa—as well as creative writing, running, reading, animal welfare, dance, and music.
Professional Background
Between completing my law studies in Leipzig and my legal clerkship (Referendariat) at the Higher Regional Court (Kammergericht) in Berlin, I pursued a degree in European Ethnology with a minor in Asian/African Regional Studies. This academic foundation allowed me to examine the lingering impact of colonial power dynamics, building expertise in anti-racist frameworks and the deconstruction of systemic oppression.
In 2022, I began my career as a practicing attorney in Berlin at a legal-tech firm, focusing on general civil and tenancy law. During this time, I realized that practicing as an associate attorney did not align with the idealism that drove me to study law. Taking time to reflect on my core strengths and values, I completed advanced training in german and on an international base across 2023, 2024, and 2026. Today, I work primarily as an online mediator.
